Episode 60 – Goal Setting

Michael: Brian Tracy was in Singapore a couple of years ago, and he did a talk on the importance of goals. Hey, everyone, Michael Babcock here! Episode #60 of the Your Own Pay podcast. I’ve got to try really, really hard not to get as excited as I did in the last episode. First of all, if you listened to that episode and you were ashamed of the way that my audio sounded, so was I! I completely understand. I was trying out this new application that allowed me the opportunity to record my podcast and then immediately drop it into my transcription service, Rev.com … R-E-V.com, if you need a transcription service. The problem is, that I got way too excited and it sounded horrible.

Ben, say “Hi!”

Ben: Hello, bye!

Michael: That’s my little brother. He just wanted to say, “Hi.” He heard me recording so I wanted to drop that in the middle of this.

Today we’re going to talk about the importance of goals, and I’ve got to make this quick! I’ve got to make this super, super quick! I’m not going to take too much of your time. Brian Tracy was in Singapore talking about how if you write down your 10 most important goals, the 10 goals you want to accomplish in the next 12 months, things are going to start to evolve in your life. Here’s the scenario he gave. You can write down your 10 most important goals, and then put those goals away. Hide them, put them in a notebook, put them in a binder; put them somewhere. You don’t even have to think about them.

Then, because you’ve written them down, your subconscious or your conscious is going to help you figure out how to make those goals become reality. The importance of writing down your goals and thinking about them, how you can accomplish them is important, because most people think about the fact that, “Hey, I want this to happen,” and “I wish this would happen,” and, “Wouldn’t it be cool if that would happen.” But when you’re writing your goals down, you start to ask yourself in the optimistic frame of mind of, “How can I complete this? What do I need to do to get that done? It’s possible to complete that goal, but how can I do it?”

Today’s podcast, once again, is a short one. Number one, apologizing for the sound quality of episode 59, and number two, encouraging you to write down what goals you want to accomplish in the next 12 months. Put them away, and then figure out how you can accomplish those goals. Now Brian Tracy, he does something a little bit different. He’s a little more indepth with his goals, and I think I’m going to start doing it the way he does. Now those of you who know, I am completely blind and I teach other blind entrepreneurs how to build the foundation of their brand online, and then expand that brand to live streaming.

Obviously, it’s a little difficult. I could write my goals down … My hand-writing is crap … But I could write my goals down, I just wouldn’t be able to read them, and Mallory probably wouldn’t be able to read them, either. However, what I’m thinking about doing is typing my goals down, and doing what Brian Tracy does. Write 10 goals that you want to accomplish in the next 12 months, every single day. That way you look at your goals, and you engage with them on a daily basis, and they stay in the front of your mind.

This is Michael Babcock, once again for December 11, 2015, episode #60 of the Your Own Pay podcast, having a blast with my son and learning a lot about goal-settings and optimistic mindsets.
